The Pioneers

The Maths Club was started in July1992 by Mrs.Nandkumar a mathematics lecturer at AEJC (Atomic Energy Junior College). She had support from a group of students from XIth class - all of them math enthusiasts. The group met and came up with the following objectives for the club:

"... To prevent mathematics from being confined to the classroom and to explore the wide world of mathematics from outside the textbook...
...To help students who are uncomfortable with maths and make them also enjoy this subject...
...To hold creative activities involving maths and to have fun with maths... "

The club was initially started with only a handful of students but during the course of the year, it attracted more and more students and soon enough it had around 40 members. The members were divided into groups such as Undefined, Omega, Octopi, Hyperbola and Epsilon Infinity. In the year that followed the club would see treasure hunts, brain teasers, quizzes, lectures, debates and loads of math-filled activities.

When the club wound up in Jan'93, little did they know the trend that they had set...
